FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Answers To Our Most Common Questions

01. What is Photobiomodulation Therapy (PBM)?

PBM is the application of a cold laser over body, muscle, skin or acupoints to deliver photons (little energy packets) to sick, injured or compromised cells and tissues. Doing so may produce a natural healing response and a chain of beneficial actions in different systems throughout the body.

Several cold lasers are now FDA cleared for Arthritis, temporary pain relief, increasing blood circulation and relaxing contracted tissues. Cold laser is thought to alleviate many issues that results due to inflammation because low level laser therapy is said to reduce 7 of the 9 enzymes that cause inflammation by up to 70%. Reduced inflammation may result in improved health.

Cold lasers are designed to deliver photons in specific wavelengths and research and clinical studies have show to produce positive biological actions in the body such as delivering photons to cells. The Mitochondria inside of the cells is able to absorb the photons and convert them into Adenosine TriPhosphate or ATP for short.

ATP is the primary fuel source of most cells in the body. Additionally, use of Cold Laser over specific acupoints on the body, hands and ears may stimulate the release of endorphins, which may support pain reduction and accelerated healing.

02. Is PBM therapy painful?

Cold Laser Therapy is a painless procedure. You may feel a warm sensation or slight tingling because nerves are being stimulated, but this will subside shortly after your treatment is finished.

03. Does PBM therapy involve any medication and is it safe?

Cold Laser Therapy is a completely safe, non-invasive, medication and drug-free procedure.

04. How long are PBM therapy treatments?

Treatments can vary from seconds to minutes per point or location, depending upon the treatment protocol, type, and power of the laser. Treatments are measured in Joules (J) which is Power (Watt) x Time (T). A device with less Power will take more Time to deliver the same amount of Joules to a specific area of the body.

05. What is PBM Therapy generally used for? PBM Therapy treats a wide variety of issues:

  • Pain and Inflammation
  • Rheumatoid Arthritis
  • Nerve Issues – including Neurological conditions
  • Osteoarthritis
  • Migraines
  • Pain Syndromes – Sprains and strains
  • Acute and Chronic Injuries
  • Promotes Faster Wound Healing
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Carpal Tunnel

06. Are there whole body benefits in addition to reducing pain?

Yes, whole body inflammation may be reduced overall with this therapy. When we complement Cold Laser Therapy with Chiropractic and/or massage care, it can help increase the rate, strength and quality of healing tissue.

This therapy may also help regulate the immune system and stimulates nerve tissues to function optimally. In terms of healing, it has been shown to generate new, healthy cells within soft tissue to promote wound healing with less scarring.

07. Is this therapy FDA approved?

Cold Laser Therapy has been used successfully for the past 50 years in many countries throughout the world. While many medical device makers may claim “FDA Approval,” very few actually are. All Cold Laser Supplies’ products we sell are FDA cleared.

08. Will it take long to experience results?

Most people experience results within their first visit or two. Results are almost immediately evident, but some people may need 3-8 sessions to feel significant improvement, especially if the issue has been chronic for some time.

If you are experiencing a degenerative condition, see a Practitioner for professional advice. Some Chiropractors and Laser Practitioners may suggest scheduling an appointment from time to time for follow-up visits, for you to continue experiencing healing.

09. What are some of the health concerns that PBM therapy can treat?

Many specific conditions, both acute and whole body respond to cold laser. These may include, but are not limited to, rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, frozen shoulder, back pain, neck pain, fibromyalgia, headache, migraine, carpal tunnel, sinus concerns, deep bruising, tendon and ligament issues, and sciatica.

If you have any questions about whether a new or chronic health concern may respond to Cold Laser Therapy, please feel welcome to call us today to answer questions!

10. How long do the effects of the treatment last?

A single treatment can continue working in a persons body for up to 24 hours. Treatment length and frequency varies, depending upon the condition and type of laser used. An acute soft tissue injury or open wound may require multiple short treatments initially. The interval between treatments will lengthen as the issue improves.

Chronic conditions typically take longer to treatment, with more treatments being the norm (up to 20), in order to support a change or transition out of old holding patterns, to allow deeper and more transformative healing to occur. The treatments have a cumulative effect, where each proceeding treatment builds on the success of the previous treatments to alleviate pain and support a rejuvenating, healing process.

11. How Expensive is a Cold Laser Device?

With so many low-cost options across the internet, it is easy to believe you will find your desired results with a product that costs a few hundred dollars. However, the majority of these products are inadequate in quality and power and produce unreliable results, much longer treatment times, and shorter product life.

An effective, portable laser with sufficient power and wavelength, made with high quality components, and backed by a manufacturer warranty will start above $2,000 dollars.
