Teen turns to Cold Laser Therapy due to 40 Seizures a day

GULFPORT — A Gulfport teenager believes cold lasers saved her life and now she wants to spread the word about the cold laser therapy that helped her.

Paralyzed with more than 40 seizures a day, nothing seemed to help Rachel Price gain control of her life.

“I was very involved in performing arts and so the seizures would, as they got worse, interfere with my life,” she said.

Price underwent brain surgery to help get rid of the seizures when she was 12 years old, but was unsuccessful.

“She doesn’t remember five years of her life,” Rebecca Price, her mother, said. “It is kind of like a black hole.”

The family turned to Dr. William LaTorre, who told Rachel to give cold laser therapy a try.

“It is like a phone if I want to call you I dial the number and it reaches you and that is the frequency your phone picks up,” he said. “If I want to dial your brain, and if I want to do things to your brain, I dial that frequency in and then I put the laser over your brain.”

Rachel and her mother were running out of options and figured since the therapy was FDA-approved, they had nothing to lose.

“We come here and hear about the laser and I just said it’s the next thing to do,” Rachel said.

The therapy consists of laser beams being pointed at Rachel’s head for 12 minutes at a time, three times a week. Her mother said the beams almost instantly made her seizures disappear.

“The seizures quickly diminished to nothing,” she said.

LaTorre said some insurance companies cover the cold laser therapy.

He said the lasers help more than just seizures and can help cure knee pain, back pain, and even sleep apnea.
