What are Lasers for Pain Relief? Pain management with cold laser therapy has been practiced for over 35 years throughout the world. However it wasn’t until 2002 that the first cold lasers for pain relief received FDA approval in the US. As of 2006 dozens of lasers had received FDA approval and FDA clearances for a variety of treatment application, however they are not all created equal.

It is important to effectively evaluate and compare cold laser therapy devices based on power, classification, wavelength, frequency, projection of light beam (continuous, pulsed or superpulsed) and type of diode. Different cold lasers and treatment methodologies are chosen for different pain conditions depending on if they are neurological, superficial, muscular-skeletal, chronic, acute or arthritic in origin.
